Cora’s TBR Challenge Check-In

We’re in the home stretch, fellow readers! Are you going to complete your TBR Challenge this year?

Giuseppe_Maria_Crespi_-_Bookshelves_-_WGA05755I’m getting very, very close. I pledged to read 18 books that have been in my TBR pile since before August 1, 2015, and November has brought my total to 16 this year. Two of the titles ticked off my list were novellas (The Groom’s Gamble by Jade Lee and The Lawyer’s Luck by Piper Huguley), and reading novellas always makes me feel a little bit like I’m cheating. I enjoyed them both, though, and shorter stories shouldn’t have to wait any more than their longer counterparts 🙂

I’ve also burrowed back in to Elizabeth Boyle’s Brazen trilogy this month, reading Brazen Heiress (the second book in the series). I read the first book (Brazen Angel) four years ago, and somehow wandered away from the series without finishing it. I can’t figure out why, as the first book was fun and well-written, but I’m glad I found my way back to it. Elizabeth Boyle’s books are always a treat to read, and I’ve had such a good time getting to know the D’Artiers family again!

  1. Goodreads counts novellas! It’s not a cheat! LOL! I am up to 140. Still haven’t finished the TBR I committed to. I did read the Bridgertons this year & 1 1/2 books away from finishing Spindle Cove. I think that Cynsters will have to wait till next year. There is a slim chance I can finish Mackenzies & McBrides by the end of the year. I am also reading the Deep in the Heart of Texas series by Katie Lane and finished book 3 of 7. If you get a chance, check out those book covers on GR. 😉 In other news, my son came up from Atlanta, Ga and my sister came up from Jacksonville, Fl for the Thanksgiving wk-end, so that was great! Thanks for keeping this up, Cora! Hopefully, I can finish a couple more TBR series by the end of the year!

    1. Yes, Goodreads does count novellas (or I’d be in trouble with all of my reading challenges this year!) 🙂 And I will definitely take a look at Katie Lane’s book covers–I love finding good ones!

  2. I have read 48 books so far this year but I’m not sure that I will reach the 58 books I read during 2015. I have committed to reading The Arrangement by Mary Balogh for my December 2016:All Together Now Team Challenge for the We Love Lisa Kleypas Group. I may be able to read a couple of Christmas novellas before I take a Christmas break.

I’m not planning to read a certain number of books in 2017 but I want to try and get up to date with certain series I’ve fallen behind with.

    1. It’s easy to get behind in a series, isn’t it? I just found one that I’d started four years ago and never finished. I liked the first book, so I have no idea why I stopped, but I’ve picked it back up this year.

  3. Carol, that Mary Balogh series is one for which I read the first book & loved it, but didn’t get to the rest. I have quite a few like that, both historical & contemporary. I have a Madeline Hunter series, a Manda Collins series and a Maya Rodale series that I read the first book & didn’t finish the series. The shiny and new call to me! I really need to quit my job and read all day. LOL. Since I just started it, I have to wait 10 years. Oh, well. Merry Christmas, ladies! Hopefully we can keep up with this in some format next year!
